Upon Further review

Looking at the photos from the 50th anniversary, and seeing how old Pat and Glenn are, made me realize my story doesn't make sense since I must have been 10 yrs younger. So, I will amend the story from the 50th to their 40th anniversary. More pictures really knock the rust off, eh Murphy's.

Thanks Kathleen and Eilena.

Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by using the sink.

For high blood pressure sufferers: simply cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes, thus reducing the pressure in your veins. Remember to use a timer.

There we were III

Hello everyone,

I was looking at the last post when my eye spotted Dewayne's trailer in the background. Realizing what it was jarred some warm memories of how Grandpa & Grandma spent their evenings together as we grew older and left on our own lives. Being out of school and looking to go south I was sitting at the piano in the dining room. Grandma was putting things in the freezer she saved from dinner. I remember her stacking jars of fresh packed peaches on the shelf, "I wish I had known about fresh packing all these years, it's better and so much easier". Grandpa was sitting by the window talking skip radio to someone in Alaska. "Oh this is mostly farming country around here". As he went on sometimes his fresh roll Prince Albert ash would fall on the floor, later when George was out of range Grandma would say "I always thought smoking was an outdoor sport". Never the less she put up with it. They had an Iron pot holder on the front room wall, "I'm the boss in this house, AND I have my wife's permission to say so". Good George!

Having a little down time, looking at the photo's, just the trailer in the back ground made the visit here worth the time. I don't want to write too much at one time, so I believe I'll finish my coffee; go out and feed; start a fire; cook some burgers; and eat some peaches for dessert.

Mike

Cuteness! Pat, Mike and Cookie...

This is one of the few memories I have of being at Grandma and Grandpa's. Notice how Mike stops smiling when Pat gets in the picture? Some things never change... :D
I just love those Murphy boys!

So there we were...

There we were visiting Grandpa and Grandma for the weekend.
Must have been around 1961 or 1962 before Marion went into the Air Force.
It got late and I was to sleep in his bed because he was out at the bowling alley and would be back late.
I had gone to bed and was dreaming soundly about being at the lake and having to go bad…
So, Standing on the rocks next to the water in my dream away I went.
Next thing I know Marion was up and the whole house was awakened by Marion hooping and hollering about wet bedding…
Woke up the whole house.

It took a few years to live that down.

So there I was cont.

.

I see we have a post from Dick's son David. This is the first I've heard from Dick's Prodigal son. Very interesting, Dick being one who helped me at a time when I was at my lowest.

.I heard a lot of reride stories from Dick and Marion from the days in La Grand.

.I would like to give a few perspectives on our Uncles that might be a little enlightening as to what kind of people they were to others, outside of our personal engagements with them. As I would like to hear from you. As you know there are no perfect people, I will never make the claim of being better than anyone, I promise.

.It is my sincere wish to have an open and honest dialog with the family at the "Gathering" taken in the spirit of Honesty & Love.

.Please join in.

There are no perfect people, but we are all we have.

So there I was.

.

So there I was on the couch, Grandpa was watching baseball on his black & white TV. A man walks up to the front door and knocks, the door was open, but the screen door was closed. Grandpa said hey (I forget his name), how are you? You haven't been by for a long time. Wondered about you and how things are going now.

.
The man said I have been wanting to come by and tell you all the latest news, but I haven't had an invitation.

.
Grandpa looked the man straight in the face, and told him, "The day you need an Invitation to come over,You are not welcome".

.That goes fo the LMA--------M.

So there we were.

.

.
A few of the precious moments that Grandpa and I had together. He was a busy man.

.
The recollection for the day, sitting in the front yard during a seldom visit to the Murphy's for a 4th of July picnic, oh there seemed to be so many people there, I had never met most of you. Just understood we must all be related. Perhaps I was in the 7th grade by then, don't really remember. There was a table full of good things to eat, (Much of it out of the garden and the old truck dairy cooler Grandma used to keep homemade canned jars in), you remember next too the two holler? I'm sure many of us are trying to put some of the past behind us, but that's where we come from, nothing if not humble. So there we are Grandpa and ME, when he asked me if I saw something wrong with this picture? What are you talking about Grandpa?-----Well Mike we have all this food out here in the yard for all of us to enjoy, Ma's been cooking for a week now, getting everything ready, and she is so proud of it all and really happy that so many came by to eat.-----so what is wrong with this Grandpa?-----well Mike it just seems funny to me that everyone is going into the house to go to the bathroom!

Dave Murphy from Tucson

My Dad Richard (Dick) and our family lived in LaGrande,OR. and other places up till 1965 when Dad moved to Las Vegas to be with his second wife. Didn't spend much time with George and Mary either but the times I did were memorable and fun. Prince Albert hand rolled cigarettes and watching baseball on a black and white TV.!!! Watching home movies of boating on the lake on a sheet hung up as a screen. Boating on the lake in that big black ?Chris-Craft? boat.
Is there a family tree somewhere?

Regards,
Dave

mikey's on board

Great stuff Ladies. This really sounds like fun.

.

The last really big party I remember would be George and Mary's 50th wedding anniversary. Many old photos floating around need to be regathered for everyone to enjoy. I have too few, sorry.

.

Just being a part of this makes me warm and fuzzy all inside, see you soon.

Good morning

Good morning everyone! I have sent invitations to those people I have email addresses for, to be contributors to this blog. I hope you will become active participants. I did not spend much time with my grandparents and will be very pleased to see new photos and read new stories about them. Also, I do not have many addresses for the Murphy participants, so don't be offended if I don't get to you right away. If any of you have your own family blogs ("The Girls' Dorm Journal" is mine) please let us know the url so we may enjoy your families too! I will get them listed on the sidebar as we go.

Thank you for your participation!
